Dear Hiring Manager,
I am the individual that one would want to have
present on a deserted island or following a major disaster because my
multidisciplinary abilities allow me to solve a wide range of problems that are
anathema to the garden-variety engineer/ scientist.
I have the skills-set
to be a part-solution to a world that professes a Skills-Gap:
Some strong points
include:
·
Creativity
– 7 US Patents, four
relating to production of nano-particulate semiconductors
·
Technical
writing/ documentation –
making everything clear so no further
explanation is needed
·
Integrating Lean, TQM, 6-δ and Common-Sense
into one consistent, User-friendly package
·
Troubleshooting
and Fixing bad processes and
equipment, failure analysis; fix-it-now-or-die situations
·
Penchant
for Reverse-Engineering of
Hardware; starting from Ground-Zero
if necessary
·
Lust for Learning - Attending
meetings,
lectures, read everything (including fiction), discussions with those of opposite views; keep
notebooks on everything.
Because of years of experience as both a multidisciplinary
engineer and a people-person I am able to look across the disciplines
assisting with identifying the problem and delivering a solution; evolving an idea from the back of the napkin to a finished
product.
Thriving as a member of a team-based environment, or I can
function alone and without supervision, documenting and reporting progress to
Leadership.
I seek a situation where I can use my mind to its fullest,
my hands to create, exceed the expectations of the organization and take home a
feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day. The perfect job would last
through infinity; a two-week-task being a hero also suits the bill.
Some examples of desired situations include:
1.
Technical Writing and/
or Engineering from my home in the Adirondacks
2. Going places and solving very
difficult electronic engineering, instrumentation, production and safety issues
(OSHA will shut you down unless. . .) within the scope of my Résumé
3.
A permanent job in the
middle of nowhere: ND, SD, WY, MT, rural WA/ OR; Maybe NM
4. I enjoy fixing things that
are beyond the in-house technical staff; of course this returns much more than
a Technician’s salary
a.
When I was at Corning
Inc., my major focus was measurements and instrumentation and a pinch of
controls
b.
When the Engineering
Staff at a remote production facility gave-up on a problem, they called me; I
have some very cool stories but would take up too much space in this venue
c.
This was the scenario at Kraft/ Polly-O:
The Staff were dreadfully ill-educated WRT the theory
(DC, AC, Electronics, Sensors, Controls, etc.) of the machinery they were to
repair. My task was to give them the theory, including Logical
Troubleshooting, of what made the machines there work and fail. When
something was beyond their abilities, I would go on to the Production Floor and
help things get better
5. Contract jobs are fine, especially
if they are located in a rural setting and away from metropolitan areas such as
LA (with all due respect), DC, NYC, NJ, and the like (these opportunities are
none-the-less always open for discussion)
6.
I would really appreciate something permanent; relocation is fine
I hope this helps. Cell-phone communications here is very
poor; please follow-up any VMS with an email. Please review my website at http://msala.us
Thank you and I am excited to work with you!
Respectfully submitted,
Martin
